When you run a business, it can be easy to get caught up in the daily grind of running that business while not paying attention to other important issues. Building maintenance, for example, can sometimes get pushed aside because it is inconvenient or it just gets forgotten about. While some cleaning and maintenance tasks may be safely put off, there are some areas of commercial building maintenance that you should never ignore. Electrical Systems Inspections
The electrical system in your commercial building is one of the most commonly used systems and one of the most important. Because of this, you should not neglect to have its functioning inspected every once in a while. You can do your own observation of the electrical system in your building by checking your electric bills every month.
If you suddenly notice that your bills are higher than usual, then you likely have an electrical system problem. You can also take a look around your building and look for any potential wiring issues like flickering lights, electrical outlets that seem to generate a great deal of heat, and the like.
However, the most important thing you should do is have a professional electrical systems inspection performed. Your electrical inspection will involve infrared testing of your wiring and electrical systems, a check of your electrical meters, and the like. All of this will be used to determine if there are any major problems with your electrical system or if everything is running smoothly the way it should.
Fire Systems Maintenance
The fire systems in your commercial building are also extremely important. You never want to find yourself facing a fire with faulty fire alarms or fire suppression systems. As such, it is vital that you spend time maintaining your fire system on a regular basis.
Test every fire alarm battery at least once a month to ensure that the fire alarms are functional. Check your overall fire systems panel for any error messages or such issues. And, of course, check and test fire extinguishers (ensuring that they are in the correct locations and functioning properly).
You will also want to have your fire systems inspected by a professional at least once a year if not more often. This will further guarantee that your system remains fully functional so it will not fail you if and when you need it.
